The Kangaroo Court
As a country, as a society, we’ve crossed over into uncharted territory. We had been eroding for several years, and the problem was there had been a lot of gray area during the transition where it was uncertain when the line was totally crossed. I think we’re beyond that now.
Presently, we’re now in a new phase of civilization – particularly western civilization. It is an ominous phase where, quite simply, facts do not matter. I’ve written about this in some capacity before. Recently there had been this article regarding the destabilization of geopolitics. A breakdown, a fundamental destabilization and what it all means. It all got me thinking, and contemplating the article one step further. It isn’t just the destabilization of a region. The invasion of a country. Those things have been happening since the dawn of human existence. What makes it unique on this go around centers around the truth. The truth is painful. Sometimes the truth is difficult to hear, but most of us have been brought up being told that the truth will set you free. That even in moments of great darkness the truth will bring everything to light. The cliches. That truth defeats darkness. Truth exonerates and punishes simultaneously. Maybe most importantly, that the truth matters. Our entire culture for thousands of years, of courts, juries, have been charged with the mission of discovering the truth. We find ourselves, however, beyond that point now. We apparently now live in an age where the truth does not matter. Truth has been replaced by innuendo, marginalized, or discredited as rumor entirely in favor of personal narrative. Facts do not matter either unless they can be bent to the shape of agendas. A digitized mass media Kangaroo Court. Any Kangaroo Court is dangerous – exponentially expanding it to countless millions is lethal.
This is where we find ourselves today. Unfounded conspiracy theories, even when debunked, are now adopted as factual information in a society that distrusts research, and welcomes – sometimes ferociously – misinformation because it aligns more with what they wish to be true not what actually is.
I don’t see any escape from it. Perhaps this is the cross roads where civilization collapses into the abyss? That seems rather melodramatic but we do live in dramatic times. If anything, it is a high state of entropy – something we’ve been marching towards for some time. Domestic politics. Geopolitics. Pandemics. Each crisis has pushed the car that much closer to the cliff. Even when you think there are a few more yards of ground it can crumble beneath under the weight of all the unresolved crisis never addressed. Which is where we find ourselves. That precarious ledge has now crumbled, and it’s my personal belief we are now on the inevitable rock-slide to the edge. If we’re not already in free-fall we have to be at the closet point to it without actually falling.
Be civil. Be professional. Be responsible. After that I don’t care about your bank account, your car, your gender or sexual orientation. I just don’t. In the same token don’t be concerned about mine.Again, there’s an air of unprofessional nature out there and a lot of it has to do with self-absorbed, narcissistic, and uneducated people. Somewhere in the 21st Century, with the assistance of electronic media, they now comprise the court. I don’t know what happens next, but I’m sure it’ll be something we cannot possibly conceive.
